2014-15 Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant Press Release
Minnesota painter Virginia Randolph Bueide awarded a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant
Bloomington, MN. February 10, 2014. Virginia Randolph Bueide is pleased to announce that she is the recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant for 2014-15. Bueide is the only Minnesota artist to receive the award this year.
The Pollock-Krasner Foundation's mission is to recognize and award those individuals who have worked as professional artists over a significant period of time. Since its inception in 1985, the Foundation has awarded over $58 million dollars to artists in 75 countries. It allows recipients to concentrate time for studio work, and prepare for exhibitions, purchase materials, document work, and otherwise build their artistic practice.
Bueide has been a Minneapolis-based painter for six decades. Born and raised in Minneapolis, she's since exhibited nearly everywhere you can in the region - the Walker Art Center (where she was selected for a group exhibition by none other than Donald Judd), the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Plains Art Museum, the Duluth Art Institute, and, most recently, at the Minnesota Museum of American Art as part of their acclaimed Studio Sessions exhibition in 2013.
She will be using the funding to create new work, as well as catalog and document her earlier works. The Foundation recognized the "exceptional quality" of her work as well as the "extent of [her] artistic achievement," and this funding will give her a chance to continue this remarkable body of work into the future.

The Four Seasons/No Strings Attached Benefit "The Painted Violin"
Ginny is one of five artists asked to paint an actual violin to benefit the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra with proceeds funding music education projects. The Violins will be featured at the silent auction during this year's symphony ball.
UPDATE:
Ginny's painted violin received the highest bid at the 2011 Symphony Ball.
"Listening to Vivaldi's Four Seasons inspired and motivated the process all along, from the initial sanding and priming of the violin face to painting in the last bird in flight. Skys of the seasons, hills, fields, orchards, a river running through it, Earth's yield & sleep: all evolved and flowed with the music. Glass beaded wire unfurling from the neck spell out 'The Painted Violin,' 'The Four Seasons,' 'No Strings Attached' & my initials 'V.R.B.' The beaded wire springing out below spells out 'Spring,' 'Summer,' 'Autumn,' and 'Winter'. The case (for safekeeping) can be hung on the wall. The little chairs lined up inside represent an audience."
